Setup on child devices (iPhone or iPad)

Safer must be set up on parent and child devices

The app needs to be installed on at least one parent device (iPhone or iPad) and one child device (iPhone or iPad).

Permission pop-ups:

Install as a child

On the "Welcome to safer" page, select Child and confirm.

Setup wizard

Follow the set-up wizard steps.

Step "Parent AppleId Login"

Tap "Login and grant permission" and after a few seconds you will see a prompt to "Allow family controls". Please accept and then when prompted enter your own apple id and password (i.e. you are signing in as a parent, not a child). This grants Safer permission to manage screentime on your child's device - and prevents anyone except yourself from uninstalling Safer!

If you see error "This device isn't signed in to a valid iCloud account" you should follow the instructions in "Signing in to family sharing group as a child".

Step "Safer Account Login"

Here you have two options: sign in using email or sign in using google.

You should use the same credentials you used when you signed in on your parent device.

Step "Assign device to child"

Select the name of the child who owns this device. You should have configured children during the setup on your parent devices but if not, you can add additional children at this stage and assign the device to one of them.

Step "Name this Device

Give the device a nickname you will remember, e.g. "Shorty's iPad".

Set up complete

You can now tap to go to your child's dashboard. You should be able to see screentime used today and any current restrictions.
